I have now been using this app for over a year (our company for 2–3 years in total), and I must say it’s one of the most overrated apps we’ve come across – definitely not worthy of a 4.9 rating.
The biggest issue is something that even many free translation apps handle better: the lack of a comprehensive search function across the entire online store. If you want to translate a specific word or phrase from a product page, you can’t just search for it – you need to manually locate where that content is stored.
This becomes a real pain because T‑Lab splits content across different sections – metafields, apps, themes, product titles – all handled separately. Translating even a single word becomes time-consuming and frustrating.
And even if you know where the translation should be done, the app becomes nearly unusable if someone else (e.g. an employee unfamiliar with Shopify’s structure) is doing the work. In short, this app is not user-friendly unless you already have deep knowledge of how Shopify organizes content. And even then it is a much slower option than many of the alternatives available
I would avoid this one
Thank you for your long-term use of TLab and for taking the time to share your feedback.
You’ve highlighted an area we know needs improvement: global search across all content types. This is especially tricky for third-party apps like ours, as we work within Shopify's API limitations and cannot access everything in one place like native tools can. That said, your point is valid, and it’s one of the reasons we've been working to restructure the app to better reflect how Shopify organizes content—making it easier to find and manage translations, even across metafields, apps, and themes.
That being said, we'd like to clarify something for anyone reading this: translation quality is where TLab shines, and it's the core value we deliver. Your customers don’t judge your store based on how easily your team can search in a translation app - they judge it based on the clarity, fluency, and consistency of the translated content they see. That’s why we’ve invested heavily in advanced AI models, and most recently in our Store Context feature, which helps the AI understand your specific domain and brand terminology. The result is more natural, accurate translations that feel tailored to your store - not generic output.
We know search is part of the workflow and we're committed to improving it, but rating the entire product 1 star based solely on that one limitation doesn’t reflect the full experience or the value the app brings to thousands of active merchants who rely on it every day.
As always, we remain fully available to help—whether it’s with setup, translation strategy, or even locating tricky content. If you’re a merchant reading this and unsure, feel free to reach out to our team. We’re here to support you every step of the way.
Not working anymore. I cannot open the app and get the error "translation-lab.sherpas.design refused to connect."
Mi opinión:
- cambiaron sus políticas y ahora sale muy caro hacer traducciones, incluso con el plan superior
- Las traducciones no son muy brillantes
Since I installed this app my website started having issues. It got to the point where the website wouldn't load any more, quickly de-installed it.
The app isn't performing as expected and doesn't conform to the developer's declaration. The translation leaves some product categories and items untranslated. For instance, out of the five identical elements present in the same block, only four were translated. It is certainly not worth using this application for a comprehensive translation of an online store.
